A wonderful asset to Caeleste as a whole! Not only does she dedicate her time as a staff member but she also spends a lot of her time being an amazing writer! She is very friendly in the chat box and her characters are very well developed. It seems everytime she steps into chat box or our discord, everything seems to light up! We are blessed to have her apart of the team and cannot thank you enough for your dedication and creativity!
  • Thread of the Month
Standing in the Way of the Light
A wild tale of two very dark creatures meeting for a second time... Xavier, possessed by 'The Darkness' tries to warn Resin about the demon inside of him but she is far too fearless to listen. Long story short The Darkness and Resin strike a deal... For twelve months the demon will on feed on her and then on the last day of the twelve months it will leave Xavier's body and never return. However it refuses to leave empty handed and as it leave Xavier it will take Resin's soul! It's a daring, darking, emotional and twisted thread that won't leave you dissapointed!
  • Couple of the Month
    Rhiannon & Wellington
A very interesting duo that you would never expect to be friends. The noble, strong headed, and rather independant Rhiannon versus Wellington, an eccentric character that has a weak moral compass but hilarious nonetheless. Their dynamics make for very interesting and rather comical threads. You can't help but wonder why a mare like Rhiannon spends her time with a creature like him but then also thankful she is there to take care Wellington and save him from all of his shenanigans.
  • Character of the Month
    Xaiver
A soul tormented by his own demons and terrible past, Xavier is a unique character to Caeleste. The poor boy seems to have endured Hell - quite literally - only to be further tormented in recent times. While he is not the monster that lives within him, his hold on the metaphorical beast seems to be waning. We can't wait to see what is in store for Xavier's future and whether or not he will shake the hold of his inner demons!
  • Quote of the Month
    Resin
"Another time, perhaps. I believe we've both tormented him enough for today."

A sad moment in the thread Standing in the Way of the Light where Resin turns down the Darkness, the demon within Xavier. However tempted, she has more respect for Xavier and tries to decline as delicately as she knows... It is a capturing moment where the apathetic Resin shows something for the damned Xavier.

⚜ X A M U E L ⚜

Molten pools of bright amber flickered in the dark sockets of his visage; burning behind the cascading veil of his dark forelock and eerily penetrating the evening gloom. His thoughts slithered about in his mind while the heat of the day still incubated the sands beneath his hard-pressing enamels despite the sun's far descent upon the horizon. He could still feel the warmth radiate toward the flesh of his pasterns and it fueled him with comfort. He savored the gradually dissipating heat without the overbearing sun before the notorious chill of the desert nights could seep what luxury it would. He hadn't been "home" in quite awhile. He had been spending his days chasing a rather interesting woman and fighting overgrown lizards. A grimace wrinkled his features in reaction to the thought and his body understandably ached. Some would say he was not in the best physical condition to be chasing the aspirations he did today; however, he a was a stubborn sort and determined to try. He had missed the previous herd meeting set by his new Emperor; the dual headed beast he had the pleasure of accompanying in a quest by Sharad. He didn't feel guilty for missing it either, but that was probably because he wasn't too impressed by the change in power. The previous woman who held this kingdom had been more intriguing but now the lands had grown irritatingly quiet. The sands rustled and whirled atop the slowing landscape. A hollow wind resonated in his ears. His nostrils flexed and pulled a sharp whiff of dry air and only managed to grasp what stale scents still clung to the domain. A stern look of disappointment wrought across his handsome physiognomy. These lands had seen many rulers come an go like tumble weeds and the people that used to side with Greeshma have almost all but abandoned these dry lands just as the water and forest receded from its cursed surface. So many promises have been whispered to their deity and too many paper crowns have burned in the flames of infidelity. How was he going to be different? He could not promise these people like the others before him and he could not host another "herd meeting"... The numbers were not sufficient. The population was just as malnourished as the land they hailed. Xamuel had been pining for a seat of power since he stepped foot here. The title would give him resources for his conquest... but as of lately his conquest had fallen to the wayside for the favor of a particular maiden.

A low resonating growl rippled in his gullet. Thick muscular frame limped forth from the dunes he traveled. His burning eyes were furious with their fiery hues and glittered dangerously with intent. His physical health was still on the incline from his draining battle, but Rousselet had done well in watching over him. A smirk cradled his onyx lips half amused by the stubborn mare's contradicting behavior. She seemed so adamant to release him back into the sea to find better fish but reluctant to let him go. He didn't want to go, there was no better fish than what he thought he caught and as said before, he was a stubborn sort. The heart wanted what it wanted and Xamuel was listening to it despite her efforts to phase him. He wanted to make her a queen and all the while ruling these lands as intended. The large and mostly black beast stopped when he assumed himself within hearing distance. A low challenging bellow broke from his chambers and demanded the attention of Rex igni. His body ached, but he believed himself capable enough to put up a fight even if he did not win. He would not know unless he tried. " Come forward hydra king! I've come to challenge you for your crowns." Sharp teeth snapped shut with a loud clamp, emphasizing his point. He was not hopeful for an answer after so long the silence had reigned, but the world was full of surprises.

Orhis Bastak
Wet all the way from my ankle to my... uh... other ankle.
He had left Devil's Perch after his visit to Greeshma's shrine - merely to inspect it, not to ask the God for anything, as he had much preferred something Sharad had to offer -  to explore the neighbouring areas, checking safety and noting anything of interest; be it generally something intriguing, or something that may come in handy to know about at a later point. It was in the Ancient Ruins when he had encountered the little purple mare, as well as the hungry panther that had given him a taste of how the abilities Greeshma had given him worked. Although it wandered through his mind the entire time he was outside of the boarders of Devil's Perch that leaving it unprotected whilst Rex Igni was indisposed was not a good move, he held no faith in the others that called this place home to go and do the research for him.

And so after he had departed his little adventure with Pollux, he'd set off not back home but into the city, where he could get the panther's skin made into a cloak; it wasn't that the icy tendrils of winter's approach bothered him too much at this point, but there was no point in wasting the skin, and it would soon be cold enough at night in the tablelands to warrant utilising it.

He did pride himself on being a rather pragmatic type. With the newly made cloak wrapped around his neck and draped down over his shoulder and then back up over his hide, Orhis made his journey back to the dusty tablelands, and by what could have only been considered as a miracle - or really, just sheer dumb luck - he overheard a loud voice calling out to, he presumed, Rex Igni.

His ears flicker in each direction in an attempt to find the true direction the voice came from and changes his course until he happens across the large stallion to whom it undoubtedly belonged. A challenger. An inaudible but internal groan hums within Orhis' mind as he looks at the beat with his mismatched eyes. He knows he shouldn't have left, even for just a couple of days.

"Rex Igni is indisposed at the moment." His husky tones reach out to Xamuel as he makes a few more steps closer, making his own large presence known. He remembers when he first came to Devil's Perch that he had happened across a meeting, and this was not a creature he remembered seeing there. He didn't much smell like the area anymore either, more like... Well, he wasn't quite sure, but it wasn't pleasant. But there did seem to be a faint smell of Greeshma.

Stretching his head a little, Orhis looks around their current area apathetically, giving a small switch and snort of his nostrils as the sun itself finally disappeared below the horizon, leaving behind only a mottled picture of gold, orange, pink, purple, and pale blue, the few clouds that hovered about the drylands lined in silver. It was all quite picturesque, for anyone that was actually interested in the beauty of nature.

Orhis, however, was not, and he returns his attention to the stallion before him. "If you would still like to challenge someone, however, I am the second in command and will act as Greeshma's champion on behalf of our emperor." He is rather nonchalant about it, largely due to the fact that he was not sure he was even up for battles anymore; he still has his armour and he still knows how to fight, and with Sharad's gift that would make it easier as well... But mentally... He came to Caeleste to try and start up a new life, but it seems that old habits die hard.

[OOC: "Domain Challenging
- You must battle a leader for the throne. (If the Domain has two leaders only the first (main) leader may answer the call but can allow any character to fight in their behalf if that character so wishes to do so. If challenger wins both leaders are demoted).
If a player with a character holding an Emperor/Empress rank is away without a known date of return or away for more than three (3) weeks, they must appoint another character or player to act as Regent during the away time.
If a leader hasn’t been appointed a Regent and they are away over three (3) weeks, their land will go up for audition. If a leader has appointed a Regent but they are away for more than five (5) weeks, that Regent will be formally named Emperor/Empress.

According to these guidelines, Kiwi must reply with Rex first and appoint Orhis to fight, unless Orhis has been named regent in Rex's place.
@Carhartt @Nikkayla @Darkrise etc any staff can confirm this, or advise if I have this wrong.]

According to the guidelines this is correct. @Kiwi / @Rex Igni needs to respond in 12 hours stating that Orhis is taking the fight or name Orhis regent (with proof provided).
12 hours remain on the time limit in this case.

“two heads is not always better than one”
(Wanderer) played by perm_identity Kiwi, posted schedule 09-24-2017, 04:38 AM. link #5
The day had started as any other. Rex Igni, since assuming the position of emperor, had woken even before the sun. A leisurely stroll around the perch, checking borders and inspecting things as they went. Each time they ended at the shrine where they would pray, not only for themselves and those within their care but for every horse. To find health, happiness, and a good heart. Perhaps they should have been pickier about who they prayed for, however they were a firm believer and peace. Igni was hopeful for a Caeleste wide peace. Rex was a bit more skeptical, but had hope.

Something was amiss.

Following the sounds and their senses the two headed emperor approached. Rex's eyes were narrowed while Igni seemed a bit more nonchalant about the entire situation. "Greetings Orhis," Rex nodded to his second before turning his attention to the challenger.

"Our second will be standing in as we have urgent matters to attend to." Rex's expression doesn't change, while Igni's grows slightly more serious. With another nod to his second, Rex turns and moves away from the pair of them.

Terms:
Attacks: 4 (either physical or magical; optional to the poster)
Dodges: 4 (full or partial; optional to the poster)
Word Count Limit: Negotiable by defending party if desired.

Xamuel:
Physical Health: 80%
  • Xamuel is still wounded from the SWP. He has scabbed over and partially healed gashes along his shoulder and flank & partially healed bite marks across his nape.
Mental: 100%

Rex Igni had indeed shown their face; however, briefly seeming displeased and distracted. Xamuel's amber eyes narrowed slightly upon Rex Igni, expecting some small speech before hurling himself at his black and white physique, but this was dashed when the low rumbling of  a greeting reached out to another. "Greetings Orhis," His attention diverted to a larger stallion appearing from the shifting sands and wild winds. His demeanor seemed less than enthusiastic than Rex Igni's to be there, of course, expecting either of them to be thrilled was unreasonable. Xamuel's harks twitched in mild intrigue as his eyes, fierce in hues, traced the striped man's physical stature. They were dangerously close in height and physical mount "Rex Igni is indisposed at the moment." He spared a few steps closer as his low vibrating vocals growled and Xamuel did not shy from him. Instead, a cynical grin gently curled his lips and flashed his pointed fangs. Indisposed? He seemed rather fine standing before him albeit looking perturbed to be faced with a challenge, but before he could lash out with a sarcastic response the current mogul's words sliced through the air. "Our second will be standing in as we have urgent matters to attend to." Xamuel did not bother offering them a second glance. He listened as the king turned away. The way the sands shifted beneath his lighter weight and the heavy silence enveloping their title elicited a dark amusement. "Coward" Xamuel's thoughts swirled.

Xamuel idly pondered what could have possibly had the emperor so busy so as to not attend their lands and people and to appoint another in their place to fight? He couldn't possibly guess but figured it didn't matter now, Orhis was here in Rex Igni's stead "If you would still like to challenge someone, however, I am the second in command and will act as Greeshma's champion on behalf of our emperor." Again Orhis spoke. The General's words shattered his temporary musing and he chuckled softly from where he stood. The flesh along his shoulder, flank and nape were heavily scabbed from the dragon conquest and the flesh still throbbed in woe from his fight. Their crusted surface shimmered in the ebbing light as he moved. The presence of the crimson double headed lord long faded in the arid desert tones leaving the two to straighten out their problems for them. "Marvelous, I was beginning to think this would be too easy." A charming smirk crawled across his features; dropping the prominent sneering previously displayed. He had to respect the nobility to fight for a royal seemingly holed up in their think tank. Xamuel dipped his skull respectfully to the striped general. " It will be a pleasure to fight Orhis." He wasn't sure if the other responded in kind, but he did not care if his polite formality was returned or not. The black and white beast found a suitable point of starting and there he momentarily planted himself. His countenance straightened into a look of focus and a single hoof struck the cracked ground with anticipation.

Orhis Bastak
Wet all the way from my ankle to my... uh... other ankle.
Orhis’s eyes narrow a little as he watches the other giant acknowledge the Emperor first, noting the slight shifts and changes within his body language, as well as taking note of the rather obvious healing injury. He had not personally been around for the little adventures others had been sent on by Sharad, where they’d pretty much all been attacked by a large dragon before taking the poor beast down, but he had certainly heard about it. It was still on many lips, especially throughout the city. He watches, silently, having only nodded his head in greeting to Rex Igni, as the twin-headed man spoke and confirmed what he had already offered: he would stand in the Emperor’s place for this battle, whether the challenger liked it or not.

He snorts lightly, more a huff of air like a sigh, as he shifts his own weight beneath that of the armour adorning his body beneath the black fur cloak. It was old and rickety, the last remnant that remained from his past, but he held no attachment to it. Armour was armour, so long as it did what it was meant to, he didn’t care if he only got one more use out of it.

He dips his head once more slightly as Rex Igni departs, and returns to look at the challenger who was now repositioning himself to begin the battle. It was merely convenient then, that Orhis had picked up his armour from being repaired whilst in the city. At the comments made towards him, Orhis merely gives another short snort. ”Let’s just get on with it.” He hated talking when it wasn’t necessary, and it certainly wasn’t necessary in a battle. Trash talk he could stand, but never participated in, there was no point.

Orhis removes the fur coat and lays it on the nearest large rock that would be out of the way of the battle, now fully revealing the unusual armour adorning his body. It appears to be made out of bone, for the most part, and painted to look like a dull iridescent blue stone, tied together with tight ropes. From crest to withers are square plates of bone, layered over each other slightly, about 4 plates wide so that it covered just over the sides of his neck; layers of rope hug his neck, with additional single plates tied around in a few spots. The ropes come around to his chest with many more tiles tied in to create a protective chest piece, which is then in turn tied to the two shield-like shoulder pads adorning each shoulder. These shields are also tied to more plating that covers his back end, whilst smaller plating covers all four upper legs. He did have a headpiece too but it was a pain in the ass to wear, so he never bothered.

It was a bit excessive, he felt, with the abilities he had received from Sharad, but at least no one would be able to say he wasn’t prepared. He walked almost lazily to a decent position a few yards from his opponent and stood, waiting.

”The challenger may go first.”

”Let’s just get on with it.” The terse retort given by his opponent evoked an amused sneer. "Very well" Xamuel's long silver-tipped plume lifted from the sand coated ground and whipped at his hide. His bright amber eyes watched as the brown beta discarded his fur cloak setting it neatly aside and unveiling what lay beneath. Bone tightly clasped to Orhis' form, an obvious set of armor that Xamuel didn't think to bring himself but did not concern him. The armor - despite its iridescently splendid motif - looked frail and ready to give. This amused Xamuel and was expressed so by the teasing slide of his tongue across the sharp-toothed grin widening along his maw. Xamuel watched the opposing stallion leisurely to a respectable position albeit a scant few yards away. The nonchalance in his stature denoted indifference to the situation, almost as if he were not fighting for any cause except to stave off his seemingly perpetual boredom whereas Xamuel fought to bring ideas to life. The lands were woefully quiet and this dominion's past leaders all but fulfilled the grand things they promised. Xamuel had no promises and therefore would not sew any he could not keep. Greeshma deserved more. What that "more" was, he was not entirely sure he could define.

His grin contorted on the verge of a snarl as the situation finally unfurled into what he had come for. The wind howled more acutely within his ears as the telltale signs of a "fight or flight" response began to thread itself throughout his being. Adrenaline began to quickly fuel his system; expanding airways and contracting blood vessels. The dull aches that earlier affected him now faded to the back of his mind as the battle before him grew glaringly lucid. Xamuel's chest cavity expanded, drawing a deep pull of oxygen to steady himself against the natural jitters associated with the abundance of energy. Within moments, his body was ready. Not wanting to draw the standoff any longer, the 25hh beast lurched forward. Sand kicked up from his heels and his muscles grew taut against his skeletal frame as they propelled his heavy frame into a slow gaining charge. The distance was not much between them and it was not enough to gain the benefit of a full charge, but it was still formidable as the gap quickly closed. His black lips peeled back and large fangs glistened in the low light lingering upon the horizon as Xamuel reached for Orhis' face. He aimed to strip his left cheek of flesh and perhaps nick the brow. If successful, hopefully, the resulting bloodletting would cascade over his eye and hinder some of his vision.

"Speech"
"Thoughts/Someone else speaks"

Attack break down:
First Attack [Non-Magic]: Xamuel lunged forward in a half charge. Upon getting close to Orhis, he attempted to bite Orhis' face. If successful, the cuts will be relatively deep but not severe and if he manages to nick the brow, his hope is to partially hinder Orhis' ability to see on that side.

Wet all the way from my ankle to my... uh... other ankle.
Orhis could hardly have cared any less about his opponent and his movements made before his lunge forward. He just simply stands there looking more or less bored. But the moment that Xamuel finally decides to make his move, the brown beast's own stance changes. Within seconds Orhis pulls himself together and stands firm, body set and prepared for the attack rather than ready to flee from it.

This was a test. An experiment. This was not entirely for reasons pertaining to the current leadership.

Orhis had spent his life fighting, however, it was almost never personal. He held no hate towards those he faced, they were simply targets that required eliminating; made easier of course when it was a paid job. But that was the life of a mercenary. A life he was, more or less, leaving behind him. He'd only taken up the job as Rex Igni's second because it gave him something decent to do with his time. He hadn't been so long out of fights that he no longer knew how to move, it was more so that he wants to see just how Sharad's abilities hold up in a fight against another similar to himself, rather than a desperate panther.

As Xamuel makes a savage reach for his face, Orhis recoils his head enough to warrant only a scrape down his jaw but is quick to swing his head back. With a small rear to give himself more force, he then swings his head back again towards Xamuel's own with a grumbling shout, daring to quite literally slam his own hard face into that of his opponent and see just how much force his Super Strength would lend him.

It would be interesting. It was no real surprise though that the scrape along his jaw that had managed to land resulted in a small trickle of blood. Facing a desperate panther that was weak from starvation was hardly a worthy comparison to a beast similar to his own form. At least it didn't hurt asides from perhaps a tiny stinging sensation if he bothered to pay attention to it.

The fact, too, that Xamuel chose to come straight at him with force gave Orhis a tiny hint of respect for the other. In this land, so he had seen so far, others were gifted with an assortment of magic, gifted by any of the five deities that had more practical active applications that ones like his own that were more passive and simply always there. From past experiences with those capable of casting magic, they were well trained and would almost always attack with their abilities first.

Their bodies would be left weak.

Not that he knew if Xamuel had magic or not, and if he did he wasn't sure what it would be but nor did he care. He would simply remain vigilant during the onslaught.

| Uses 1x Partial Dodge - pulls head away just in time to not have his face ripped open, sustains a scrape/cut/thingy on his lower jaw area.
| Uses 1x Attack - aims at slamming his face sideways into Xamuel's. (Giraffe style... haha ok kidding, not really. XD Sorta.)
((Sorry it's pretty shit. Slammed my head on my window frame today and it threw me for a loop, been mostly out of it all day. yaaaay...))

His opponent was quick to recoil from his dangerous teeth; however, not quite fast enough. Flesh peeled beneath his glittering enamels and the modest taste of scant blood rolled across his taste buds. A grumbling yet brief chuckle rumbled from his gullet as his tongue swiped his crimson tipped fang. While Orhis' blood tasted less appealing than Venison Xamuel savored the small victory. Unfortunately, he had grown too distracted. Xamuel, not minding his opponent, reeled his skull back, ready for another strike when the broad side of the other beast's head smacked right into his own. Swept into a briefly blinded daze, a loud growl of frustration, surprise, and pain emitted from his tautly drawn lips. "What the fuck?!" It felt like he had just headbutt a train! The distinct yet muffled "thud" of their collision was cringe-worthy as his brain seemingly rattled within his cranium. For a few seconds, his eyesight flickered with bright disorienting abstract ribbons of light and the sharp stinging pain of broken blood vessels ignited beneath the thin layer of epithelium at the spot of impact. Already the delicate membranes began to puff up and discolor from abuse, but fortunately, his vibrant contusion could not be witnessed under the shroud of his black canvas. Knocked off balance, but not falling, Xamuel staggered a few erratic steps away to rebalance himself. Once the skull cracking shock lulled in its torment, a snarl rippled across his features and irritation boiled within his bosom. Amber eyes flashed upon Orhis. Orhis seemed callous and lacking concern for the superficial wound Xamuel's fang scribed across his jaw and this chafed his already downward spiraling mood.

It was evident now, that Xamuel underestimated the striped second in command, but even so, Xamuel would not let him off so easily. The large beast shifted and realigned himself. Just as quickly as he stumbled away, he closed the temporarily granted space between them. Once within a decent proximity, and with his head throbbing, Xamuel's torso hoisted skyward upon his haunches into a full rear. Large flailing hooves sliced through the atmosphere and swung for Orhis' nape and crown. It was terribly unoriginal of him to strike within the same area twice; however, he wasn't too terribly sore about his lack of creativity. His sire's old nefarious temper seethed and writhed within him growing more voracious as his injuries built a count and the violence prolonged. Perhaps he could discard the feeble looking armor he adorned but he wasn't so sure. Orhis proved to be more nimble than he had presumed. No matter, Xamuel would match him the best he could; iron for iron. His pulse resonated within his lobes and jumped within his jugular. Heat coalesced at his brow beneath the tender point of his injury. The minor buzz of pain was staved by his anatomical opiates finally swarming to alleviate what pain they could, but the wound still distracted him albeit slightly now. It would turn to be a nasty bruise and he intended to return a headache unto his rival.

Whether he was successful or not, Xamuel was lost in thoughts pertaining to his minor wound to tell. His large feet met with the scorched earth's base once more and his muscles braced protectively around his frame anticipating another impact. He did not want to be caught off guard again. His inky harks flattened against his crown as he awaited the response from the unpredictable and clearly experienced in battle Orhis. Xamuel was not quite certain if the earthen toned man harbored any sorcery, but Xamuel was saving his energy. He would need to conserve as much as possible. He would need to be ready to defend himself with his metal manipulation in case the striped creature decided to switch it up.

Second Attack [Non-Magic]: After receiving his head shock from Orhis, Xamuel stumbled a few paces away dazed. This, of course, provoked some frustration. After regaining his balance and whereabouts, Xamuel re-closes the small gap he had made and rose up into a rear to strike at Orhis' face and neck.

Orhis Bastak
Wet all the way from my ankle to my... uh... other ankle.
A wave of satisfaction washes over Orhis as he both hears and, of course, feels the impact of his own cheek against Xamuel’s. It had worked as well as he had hoped, although it did seem perhaps he had put a little too much force behind it, as his own brain rattles in his head for a moment; though undoubtedly not as badly as his opponent’s. That was certainly going to be something he would work on improving whilst he spent time here, but for now, he is focused.

It is clear as day that he’d pissed off the other brute, but unlike others, Orhis offers no smug smiles or snide remarks. Despite being a stand-in for Rex Igni, Orhis feels no need to rush the fight and is happy to drag it out to test both of their abilities. He gives a tiny hint of a smirk, barely visible on his lips, as the other rears into the air moments after regaining his composure from the slam.

He has seconds to think of what to do, how to play this before Xamuel would come plummeting down in an apparent attempt at hitting back at him, rather than a simple show of force and frustration. A snap decision is made, and Orhis lowers his head and swings himself around, allowing Xamuel’s hooves to come down over the side of his rump where the protective armour plating lay. Rope tears and some of the bone plates in the area snap and break as the rope holding them fails, allowing a hoof through and breaking the skin. Blood seeps out, to no surprise.

This one stings more than the slight grace across his jaw, but Orhis holds his poker face and ceases any attempts of emotions passing through. He turns to look at the damage, an ear twitching this way and that, purely to ensure he keeps Xamuel’s location in check. When he is satisfied that the damage is not too bad and he can keep the armour on without it being a distraction, he turns to look at the black beast,

”How’s the head? Do you need a moment?”

His words are not chiding or taunting, in fact, they sound almost genuine, if a little blunt. For Orhis, there is little point in fighting an opponent with a concussion or who cannot concentrate on the fight any longer. There is no fun in that. As he questions, he circles where he stands before taking a few extra steps to remake the distance that was originally between them. He was fine with close-quarter fights, but having room to plan was much more ideal when the chance presented itself.

  • Xamuel has taken advantage of the lull provided by Orhis to regain some composure. He is focused again.

Orhis was quick for his size, faster than Xamuel could apparently strike. The other ducked and swung aside, successfully evading most of his aerial volley of strikes, but not all. Snap! The brittle rope binding Orhis' skeletal armor broke beneath the sharp edges of his hooves and the perceptively old calcium plating crumpled to the parched earth in a heap of risen dust. A grin cracked along the seam of his maw; baring his many fangs in a show of pleasure for his small triumph. His glittering eyes caught the small glimmer of blood weeping from a new laceration and nothing felt better than witnessing Orhis bleed; however, despite his small profit, Orhis still seemed mostly detached from his afflictions. A brow quizzically arose above a burning golden eye in kind as Xamuel scrutinized his rival. Was he some brainless jarhead wrought from a militant family? Was this man desensitized from the primitive sense of self-preservation? Xamuel gave a curt shake of his head clearing his mind and pushing his own physical ailments on hold. ”How’s the head? Do you need a moment?” The honest concern, despite the rather monotonous tones he bore, caught Xam off-guard. His harks swiveled forward and his attention flickered to Orhis' visage as if to find some backhanded sneer condescending him, yet, nothing of the sort existed. The black and ivory touched heathen straightened. His burning attention never left the other man's countenance. Orhis didn't even try to reply to his threat with force, he merely dodged him and strode away. Why didn't he attack? What ploy did this second in command intend to implement? The questions burned hotter than a smith's forge; however, once he had deciphered no hostility within Orhis' question Xamuel dipped his head in acknowledgment. Even now, in the heat of a paramount situation, it was refreshing to not be reduced to mindless animals. In his past experience, such high-stress positions were usually cradled by bodies once fueled with envy for its grandeur. Xamuel watched many a man succumb to greed and be driven to bloodlust (his father included) and ultimately kill or die trying to achieve it. This is what set them apart from true savages. " I am fine. I appreciate the good sportsmanship. You may hit hard, but you'll need to hit harder to put me down." Xamuel flashed him a smartly trimmed smirk. His attempt at jest, but Orhis didn't respond too well to his previous attempts at banter and Xamuel couldn't help but respect it.

Silence ensued heavily between them. The world continued spinning whether they joined in the merciless circles fueling a mundane life or stood in quietude for all of their time. The world paid no heed to the granules of sand facing one another in a fight for a laurel to rest upon. It was Orhis' turn to make a move. Orhis circled like a predator around vermin; taking a couple steps to regain the ground once lost but still did not strike. "What are you waiting for..." Xamuel mulled over his antics; curling his tongue neatly against the roof of his mouth in thought. Several moments had passed and now his vision had cleared. The winds caressed his back and littered his hide with particles of the desert. He could feel Greeshma's environment around him. The deprived soils whispered with veins of iron and Xamuel listened. He had played well enough, and Orhis dallied too long, now it was time to unfurl his magic. The dual colored brute squared himself within his place and breathed deeply. His conscious felt for those glittering shining veins well reserved and buried deep beneath the earth's surface. He traced their unrefined ribbons of beauty and gently coaxed their slithering channels with his thoughts. He uttered a low reverberating growl and honed in on their ferrous forms. His magic swelled within him and seemed to course through his forelimbs; into the very dehydrated terrain and onto the alloy. Once he was certain he had good will upon the material Xamuel roared and snapped his skull skyward. From under the ground, a rumbling arose like low thunder. Shortly after, long tendrils of lustrous metal erupted from the surface in writhing chaos; flinging harmless rock and sand debris in all directions. The tendrils warped and curled like octopus limbs grasping at the air before ultimately breaking apart to morph and refine into seven haphazardly made spears. Their tips glinted dangerously for half a second before Xamuel snarled and tossed his skull forward. The new crudely made shafts lurched forward and propelled toward Orhis. He did not intend to kill the admirable man, but it was no doubt that being struck would be nigh detrimental. He was curious to see how his opponent would dance.

Orhis Bastak
Wet all the way from my ankle to my... uh... other ankle.
He stands still and silent, waiting. They were, and were not, complete brutes. Each seems to understand there is no necessity to simply bombard each other with flailing attacks to get the battle over with. It was, in a way, refreshing, but at the same time Xamuel only seems to pause to gather himself together before his next attacks; Orhis merely bides his time patiently.

Although the smile does not etch its way across his pale lips, it is evident within the stallion’s mind as he listens to the comment made. Oh he would certainly be able to hit harder, but whether or not that was going to result in blowback repercussions for himself was not something he particularly wanted to test out unless necessary.

Still, he prepares himself mentally in the downtime, waiting for his opponent to attack again; he had seen the muscle movement within the other’s features and figured he must have started to lose his patience. Finally, that seems to be the case, and his ears twitch this way and that to catch the unusual sounds erupting from the earth.

Now, Orhis is not against playing a little dirty, sneaky. Whilst Xamuel busies himself with conjuring up his magic – given it was coming from the earth there were only a couple of elements that came to mind it could be – the great brown beast has taken a few steps further back. Just as the metal tentacles burst from the earth’s crust, he dashes forward, powerful haunches giving him just the right amount of speed from the get-go.

Although he can see the metal turn into spears, it is the least of his concern as he charges towards Xamuel, quite intent on slamming his whole body into the other just had he’d done so earlier with his head. This time though, there was more force behind a whole body charge; however, Orhis isn’t ignorant to his abilities limits, and knows he won’t come out of the charge unscathed – so long as he manages to land the charge and Xamuel doesn’t move too much.

But that’s one reason he’d decided to play a little dirty; what else would one expect from a champion under Greeshma? As he charges, though, he can feel the spears hit his plated armour, but thanks to the tied bone they merely ricochet off, making a pinging noise as they leave him unharmed and patter to the ground pitifully.
Undoubtedly though he was going to have to get a new set of armour once this was all over; such was the way of his life, though, and it wasn’t too much of a worry.

It was frustrating, to say the least, to watch his manifested pikes clatter against Orhis' armor without nary a wound stricken upon his flesh. Xamuel snorted in contempt. Surprise flickered across his features when he noticed that Orhis was coming toward him instead of merely dodging. He did not have much time to react as the earthen toned opponent charged for him. In the thrill of his surprise, his thoughts quickened and a sly grin parked itself upon his features. Back haunches cocked with ready muscles, he leaped diagonally forward out of the charging heathen's path. As his metal sorcery fell to the earth lifeless; released by his will, his physical form shimmered and rippled. His 25hh quickly began to shrink to the size of a pony. His fur grew long and hooves turned to large round paws. His long plume shrank to a fluffier more solid tail. The beast to manifest within his spot was muscular and predatory; long fangs extended to align with his bottom jaw and black lips peeled back into a feral snarl. A wolfish growl rumbled in his throat; low and harrowing. Where a large equine once stood, now stood a black Dire wolf. His nape was scribed with his familiar minimal white marking and his eyes still their burning amber. Claws dug into the pliant earth carving deep yet minuscule grooves as he pivoted to face Orhis in his new form.

Slowly, Xamuel began to prowl a gradual circle; waiting for the other to possibly catch up with what happened and giving him time to possibly figure himself out. He made no move to attack. The energy sacrificed to pull those now useless veins of metal from the earth had taken its toll. His heartbeat pounded strenuously within his chest cavity as if undergone a bit of cardio and his head throbbed madly, reminded of its earlier collision. He was by no means under tragic enough condition to resign from the fight, but the efforts made by him were certainly beginning to demand their payments. He could not expect his endorphins to keep up with his injuries for too much longer. They were a mere duct tape fix to what needed stitches and the pain was slowly beginning to lace itself into existence once more. Xamuel would need to rest once this was all said and done. Now, however, he would be lither upon his feet albeit still restricted by his powerful form. He would not be able to hold this form for very long, but he would be damned not to make it somewhat worth it. Xamuel halted then and laid upon the ground in a "ready-to-spring" position upon his stomach. His limbs placed perfectly beneath him and ready to react should the equine choose to charge yet again. Xamuel was intrigued about why he had not pulled any form of visible sorcery to aid him and partially wondered if perhaps he did not possess any or if his sorcery was indeed invisible to the eye and restricted to close quarters. There was no way to be sure unless he willingly threw himself into the beast's grasp and Xamuel was not about to do that. The ground had ground pleasantly cooler as the dim hours of the evening drew on during their scuffle. The temporary relief soothed him enough to calm the wild pulse in both his head and chest. His focus fixated upon the other, waiting.

Wet all the way from my ankle to my... uh... other ankle.
It was always going to be a 50/50 chance of landing any kind of hit during a charge, let alone a complete collision, so there is a little disappointment in Orhis's mind as he slows himself and turns a half circle, dust and dirt flying through the air around him from the friction of his large feet at such speed. As he becomes still once more, the world around settles back to its natural state of calm; the dust drifts back down to the dry earth and no longer irritates his nostrils or throat, although he is certain to find sand and dirt within his mane for weeks. Not that being meticulously clean all the time was of terrible import to him. A bit of dust and dirt offers a good rugged look for a mercenary, afterall.

Well, at least that had given his legs a good stretch. Now though, he stands and looks over at Xamuel, a tiny shimmer of a smirk tickling his velvet lips as he watches the now wolf figure circling just as the panther the other night had. That little adventure had certainly not ended well for the feline, proof being that the cloak he had laid aside earlier was made of it. A dark thought trickles across his mind as he looks at the shapeshifted fur; it doesn't look like it would be as nice as the panther cloak though. Pity.

Although Orhis never, or if so only in scarce situations, partakes in trash talk, it doesn't stop him thinking things. And right now, all that runs through his mind is the question of whether or not Xamuel was too uncertain in his true forms abilities. But then, he has no personal experience with such things as shapeshifting, and perhaps if he had it as well, he'd use it to his advantage. But the only advantage he can see is the change in dexterity. That, however, did not necessarily mean it was a good or bad thing - for either of them.

Mismatched eyes watch the wolf carefully. Should he wait again, potentially allowing Xamuel to grow bored enough to strike first as he had tried to earlier, or simply get things moving along so he could go off and partake in more personally interesting things? With a barely audible sigh, he dips his head a bit and rolls his large shoulders, the gentle rattle of the armour upon his body from the movement relaxing his mind enough to decide.

Orhis charges forward, not as fast as his full charge moments ago, but enough to be running towards the wolf. However, seemingly out of nowhere, the brown beast stops and swivels on his heels in a fresh whirl of dirt and dust, and strikes out with a hefty buck of his large back feet; he had noticed how Xamuel had positioned himself, and if his opponent had indeed done what he expected, well, that was certainly going to end in a little more pain for him on top of all else.

His back end lands, polluting the air further with more dust and dirt, so much so, it even caused himself to snort in irritation.

Amusement rippled across his features as he watched the bone clad warrior jarred himself enough to circle back. The desert's dehydrated granules and particles flung through the air in rather murky clouds of filth drawn up from the commotion. Some of the grime clustered around the fringes of his snout and lightly powdered his back. The crud did not particularly bother him, but he found his eyes irritated by all the dust rather annoying. He would learn to embrace such things since he intended to rule over these lands. This would ultimately become a norm for him. It would seem silence had grown to be a habit between them as the great black wolf watched the now much larger heathen. What thoughts spun in his mind were unknown as he tried to search the scrutinous gaze of his adversary. He could obtain nothing and it was in these moments he desired a trivial moment of mind reading to squash his nagging curiosity; however, his love for his metal is what shooed the petty wanting. Xamuel's ears twitched and he shifted almost impatiently in place waiting for some form of advancement. Orhis had allowed him to attack first after a lull, now Xamuel would do the same. A low cautious growl vibrated within his chambers and he shifted upon his haunches again. Then, finally, Orhis' huge physique pitched forward in a slower charge. Xamuel flinched as if to move but quickly steadied himself. His head slightly ducked like a cat about to pounce upon a string as he watched the stallion quickly gain landscape with his long lumbering strides. His harks flipped backward when Orhis skid to a harsh stop and whirled upon his heels, realizing quickly what he meant to do. Now, Xamuel pushed himself to his feet and darted to the side, out of the way.

Claws dug into the loose sand; scraping for purchase as his form propelled to the side of Orhis, successfully avoiding the powerful kick thrown backward that could have been detrimental to his more fragile form. A more savage snarl ripped from his gullet and he lunged toward the broken space in Orhis' armor. Bone crushing jaws dribbled in viscous ribbons of saliva. The leap was tough and rather high, but his forepaws extended for leverage upon the weak rope between bone plating he was more than aware could break under his hefty weight, but hopefully would allow him enough time to deliver the deep bite he intended to sink into the beast's flank. If he was successful, he would tear into what he could for what little time he was allotted. This was his last attempt to take the crown for himself, for after this, there was not much else for the fighting duo to do. The duel must come to an end like the sun must meet the horizon and their actions would determine who failed and who triumphed. A determination was hellfire in the pit of his stomach; licking wildly, and fueled with aspirations. Would Greeshma be pleased with his attempts and award him the golden crown of his people? or would he be disgusted and cast him away to try again another day? Would Rousselet mock him if he failed and would she be impressed if he was victorious? Suddenly, the thoughts of the marvelous beauty briefly flashed within his mind, but he pushed the thoughts aside, re-focusing upon the task at hand. A frustrated growl emanated from the wolf. Xamuel felt his weight begin to pull him back to the sandy earth.

Third Attack [Magic]: After using the lull to regain more of his composure, Xamuel pulls some metal from the earth and forms it into seven spear-like shafts of crude design and flings them at Orhis. If struck, the damage is up to the writer.

Fourth & Final Attack [Non-Magic]: Xamuel darts off to the side where he knows Orhis' armor is damaged from his earlier attack. There he lunges, attempting to latch onto him and tear into the exposed flesh.

No Attack This Round: N/A

Dodge break down:

First Full Dodge: Xamuel had little time to react to Orhis charging him and made a quick decision to lurch diagonally forward and shape-shift into a dire wolf.

Second Full Dodge: Xamuel continues to lay as Orhis approaches, once he realizes what he intends to do, he leaps from his position and quickly darts to the side, successfully avoiding the heavy blow from his feet.

Orhis Bastak
Wet all the way from my ankle to my... uh... other ankle.
Orhis snarls in irritation at the slippery snake that was Xamuel's wolf form. But, as the beast instead leaps onto him and attempts to latch his maw around the exposed portion of his rump through the broken segement of armour, Orhis drops immediately to the dusty earth, letting gravity take its course on his heavier side. This was nothing more than another encounter with a feral beast, and from now, he would treat the situation as such.

Drop and roll. It wasn't a fancy or even very dignified, but it had always proven to be an incredibly effective move in the past; although, that was typically only when facing wild animals, not a shapeshifted equine. So, in its own way, this was a first. Not that it changed anything really.

"By my strength, you will not have Greeshma's land this day." He growls before he begins to roll about, back and forth, as if scratching his back in the cracked earth, legs and hooves flailing about uncontrollably; well, more so, uncaringly. Once he felt that was enough, he got to his feet and shook the dirt and dust from his slightly fluffy coat, as well as even a small back leg shake much like a cat after relieving itself.

He snorts, and walks away, returning to the large rock he had laid his cloak over earlier so as to retrieve it. He didn't even turn to inspect what potential damages he had caused. He was done.

Xamuel Forfeits, Orhis is Victorious!
It has come to the staff's attention (Carhartt, Sol, Lee, & Mouse) multiple rules have been breached: use of Universal Sorcery to harm a player, the use of a 2nd Full Dodge when armor was not in use/stated was not being used, and overexertion of Sapphire Sorcery level to harm another. As such, this has resulted in a forfeit of @Xamuel . This battle was a great and the staff stated above will be judging it to offer constructive criticism. The judging is to help both staff and writers gather experience and learn together. We appreciate the two members who participated and those who have read the battle. Congratulations @Orhis on your victory.

A riveting and exciting battle post. Please note this is just a quick review of the battle thread and a little something to offer constructive criticism. Both did an amazing job.

Xamuel

Creativity - ★★★
There is a lot of creativity in your writing. All of your posts are enthralling and capturing! There are realistic aspects with entwining changes and in-depth excitement. Love how the mental health deters because his frustration and how things affect him throughout. Shows creativity and out of the box thinking.

Depth - ★★★
Great imagery and everything seems very well planned out. You paint a vivid image that makes the battle exciting and is if I had a front row seat.

Grammatics - ★★
Too many big words and overly expressive adjectives. Had to open up a thesaurus A LOT to ensure I knew the word and if it was being used correctly. Don’t mind fancy rp speech, but maybe a tad too much. Be sure to reread post and review your posts before posting to look for coding errors. There were a few long winded sentences that could have been separated.

Dodges -
Love the dodge by shapeshifting it’s very creative and exciting. Well thought and out of the box thinking. Unfortunately, you use two full dodges thus forfeiting the battle and forcing this portion to be lower then what it should be. Would love to give you two stars but forced to give on account of using two full dodges.

Attacks -
Easy to follow. Need to re-check rules on levels of sorcery and how sapphire cannot hurt others However it is creative and unfortunate it can’t help your score. Need to refresher that universal sorcery cannot be used as battle and harming. I would love to give you a two maybe even a three but forced to give no stars.

Total Stars = 8/15

Orhis

Creativity - ★★
It’s a well written battle but didn’t really capture my attention. Lacks excitement. Not attack no defense one round is interesting but seems to be a lot of mental monologue. Needs more excitement. I know it hard because the character is lax but needs to be spiced up a bit.

Depth - ★★
A lot of mental monologue but seems to be well thought of. The character seems methodical and well planned which is portrayed well. Would like to see more description of the environment and damage given and take.

Grammatics - ★★
Stay professional on recaps, it really made it hard to take it seriously. Most sentences flowed nicely and were easy to follow. But some repeated descriptive words and there were a few run-on sentences, but all in all posts were well written.

Dodges - ★
Needs to describe in better detail. There was only one partial dodge and an armor dodge. Would like to see dodges used to help paint a picture and describe the scenario in greater detail. You could have used a few more dodge and help capture the reader.

Attacks - ★★
Buck and kick is a nice twist and had a few good out of the box thinking attacks. The one post with no attack or defenses needed something exciting. Attacks seem original and well thought of.

Total Stars = 9/15
